Reiki as it is commonly practiced today began in Japan in the early 20th century. Mikao Usui is widely credited with developing and teaching the Usui Reiki method around 1922. His teachings spread through Japan and later internationally, helping Reiki become a worldwide complementary wellness practice.

What Is Reiki Energy?

Reiki is based on the belief that all living beings carry life-force energy—the natural energy connected to vitality, balance, and well-being.

Reiki practitioners describe a session as working with universal life-force energy. The practitioner does not “put something” into you, control your beliefs, read your mind, or perform a religious ritual. You remain fully awake, in control, and free to relax quietly throughout the session.

Many people choose Reiki as personal quiet time: a chance to slow down, breathe, rest, reflect, and reconnect with themselves.

Where Reiki Comes From?

Is Reiki a Religion?

Reiki is not a religion, and it does not require prayer, conversion, membership, or a particular spiritual belief. It has historical roots in Japan, where Mikao Usui was influenced by the spiritual environment of his time, including Buddhist and Shinto traditions. However, Reiki itself is generally practiced as a nonreligious complementary wellness method and may be received by people from any faith background—or no faith background.

What Reiki Is Not

Reiki is not Voodoo. It is not witchcraft. It is not a spell, sacrifice, séance, or religious conversion practice. It does not involve worshipping anything, summoning spirits, or requiring anyone to change their beliefs.

Reiki is also not medical treatment. It does not diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent illness, and it does not replace care from a physician, mental-health professional, or other licensed healthcare provider. Reiki is considered a complementary approach, meaning some people choose to use it alongside—not instead of—conventional healthcare.

Who IS REIKI For?

Who Is Reiki For?

Reiki is designed for adults seeking a quiet, private space to pause, release, and return to themselves.

It may be a good fit for professionals, business owners, leaders, caregivers, creators, travelers, and other adults who carry a great deal of responsibility, stay constantly in motion, or spend their days holding space for everyone else. It is also for those who work around heavy stories, difficult realities, constant information, creative pressure, or emotional noise—and need time away from it all.

This is a space to step out of control, expectation, urgency, and overthinking. To lie still. To breathe. To be quiet. To surrender.

Reiki can be a meaningful complementary wellness practice for adults who want to slow down, restore their sense of balance, and create intentional time for rest, reflection, grounding, and personal renewal. It is not about performing, explaining, fixing, or being “on.” It is simply time set aside for you.

For the person who is always moving, always managing, always giving—this is your invitation to pause, soften, and come back to yourself.

Reiki is offered as a complementary wellness service and is not medical care, psychotherapy, diagnosis, or treatment.

How a Session Works

Four quiet moments

In person and virtual follow the same shape.

Only the room changes.

What to wear

Soft layers. Easy to remove and put on comfortable clothing. No special outfit. Remove only shoes, watch, and anything that pinches.

Receive

Reiki with me can be received with clothes on or as an optional Reiki-and-bodywork session. In a standard session you stay dressed; I work with hands on the body, just above it, or at a distance—your choice. Most people rest. Some talk. Some doze. Nothing is required of you. If you want the blended session, Reiki hand positions and a gentle body rub are done together. For that option you may disrobe to your comfort level and professional draping is used the whole time. Say which version you want when you book so nothing about the session is a surprise.

Arrive

In person: a quiet Boston-area room, shoes off, you stay fully clothed.

Virtually: you settle somewhere you will not be interrupted, camera optional after we check in.

Share what's present

A short conversation — sleep, stress, a tight shoulder, a season you're in. Nothing you have to justify. First sessions include a few extra minutes of intake.

Close

A minute to sit up, sip some water, and a brief note on aftercare. You will be given a brief time to collect yourself and become grounded and stable as a lot of people describe a feeling of floating while trying to walk.

Practical Notes

Aftercare

Drink water. Keep the rest of the day simple if you can. Some people feel lighter; some feel tired; some feel nothing dramatic. Reiki Energy can affect each person differently.

Cancellation

Please give 24 hours. Same-day cancellations may forfeit the slot. Details live on the disclaimer page.
